In the Philippines, thousands of Barangay, volunteer health workers, have been trained to provides primary health care at the community level. They are accredited by the local health board and act as the first point of contact for health. Many serve the most remote communities which are often most vulnerable. The World Bank is supporting the government with a health project to provide training to Barangay community workers.
