An attack by violent extremists in the Philippines in 2017 send hundreds of thousands of people fleeing south from the city of Marawi. Many found friends in the local community, where the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from Japan, carried out a project to give women skills and links to markets so they could earn income and build peace.
